Over the past four years, Syd and her wife have opened their home to over two dozen dogs. In a recent conversation, the artist revealed they have fostered approximately 24 or 25 animals, ultimately choosing to adopt two of them—the 10th and 14th dogs they welcomed into their lives.
Recognizing her deep-seated passion for animal welfare, we invited the singer and The Internet frontwoman to visit the Best Friends Pet Adoption Center in Los Angeles. The experience highlights the profound impact of fostering, a practice Syd champions for those unsure about the long-term commitment of adoption.
“When people tell me that they are looking to adopt a dog, but they’re not sure what they want, I always suggest that they foster,” Syd explains. “Not every dog is going to be the right fit.” By fostering, potential owners can better understand their own lifestyle needs while providing a temporary, loving home for a dog in transition.
To support the ongoing efforts of the Best Friends Pet Adoption Center, donations can be made directly to their organization. For more insights into her life and music, read the full October 2026 cover story featuring Syd.
