ROSALÍA Marks One Year of LUX with a 1,000-Song Playlist

ROSALÍA is marking one year of LUX with a new Substack letter and a 1,000-song playlist of the music she listened to while writing, recording, and touring the album.

The letter is titled “Dar a Lux,” a play on the Spanish phrase for giving birth. In it, Rosalía apologizes for going quiet, explaining that 2026 moved too fast for her to stop and write. She says she has always written lying in bed, a habit that dates to a teenage bedroom with room for either a piano or a desk, but not both. Looking back, she calls the past year “one of the hardest of my life, but also one of the most meaningful.”

She also revisits what she was reaching for on the record. “When I was making this record, I thought about cathedrals,” she writes. She isn’t sure she succeeded, and admits she doesn’t know whether she would make an album like it again.

The playlist, titled “1.000 TEMAS QUE TE DAN LUX” (“1,000 songs that give you Lux”), closes the letter. Rosalía presents it as a gift:

“These days we name and distinguish love languages so much because it’s easier to name loves than to love. But wasn’t love the mother tongue? How important it is not to forget to nourish yourself and to nourish others. I say this because I forget every day, but I try to send music to the people I love and cook them delicious things too. I love acts of service; there’s something about preparing something for someone else that fascinates me. That’s why I made a playlist of 1,000 songs I listened to during the years I dreamed up, composed and shared LUX.”

LUX arrived November 7, 2025. Quotes have been translated from Spanish.
