According to reports, the half-brother of Cash Money Records co-founders Slim and Baby Williams, Terrence “Gangsta” Williams, was released from prison earlier this month while still serving out a life sentence. However, it’s not immediately clear why Williams received an early release, and the judge’s rationale behind the ruling is sealed.
Williams was released on Jan. 3 by U.S. District Judge Ivan Lemelle after he was resentenced to 27.5 years. Williams was likely released early due to cooperating with the government in some capacity.
Terrence “Gangsta” Williams clearly lived up to the name before going to prison. Per NOLA.com (h/t HipHopDX), “court records show [Williams] was plotting to kill a group of New York drug dealers in New Orleans to get paid for heroin they’d shipped by mail when the feds intercepted the package and listened as Williams hatched a murder plan. Consequently, he pleaded guilty to engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise and solicitation for murder and was sentenced to life plus 20 years.”
Williams’s criminal exploits were said to have helped bankroll Cash Money in its early days.
