North West continues to carve out a distinct lane in the music industry, distancing her sound from the legacy of her father in favor of the experimental, SoundCloud-adjacent aesthetic. As she prepares for the release of her debut EP, north4ever, this Friday, she has unveiled a new collaboration with the enigmatic Florida-born artist Edward Skeletrix.
The track, titled “Let’s Have Some Fun,” arrives alongside a music video that serves as a visual showcase for the current underground scene. The clip features cameos from a wide array of emerging talent, including A24-signee Sophia Stel, digital artist Sotce, and GEN F stars such as Feng, Baby Osama, and Jackzebra.
The collaboration is a surprising but effective pairing. Skeletrix, known for his eerie, off-kilter production style, provides an instrumental that feels like a blend of ambient gabber and late-night club chaos. North West’s verse is characteristically casual, asserting her dominance in the industry while maintaining a nonchalant delivery that contrasts sharply with the pulsing, frantic beat.
This release coincides with the lead-up to Skeletrix’s new album, Body of Work, also dropping this Friday. The project promises a diverse list of features, including Slime Dollaz, MOWALOLA, Pol Taburet, and a posthumous appearance by XXXTENTACION. The album is largely produced by Skeletrix and his frequent collaborator o0o, alongside contributions from Fern Shy, Alan Mark, Juuni, and dipper.
For North West, this marks another step in a busy year of musical exploration. Having previously partnered with gamma. for her debut single “PIERCINGS ON MY HAND” and contributed to skaiwater’s wonderful, she is rapidly establishing herself as a versatile force in the contemporary landscape.
