Frank Ocean dismisses Look At Us, We’re In Love album rumors

It’s been a minute since Frank Ocean has made a direct public statement. The last time may have after his ill-fated headlining set at Coachella 2023, when he announced that his appearance at the second weekend would be cancelled by an injury. Now, we’re hearing from his official Instagram account pushing back on rumors about a shelved album.

On September 5, the Instagram account @rap.rappity posted a slideshow titled “FRANK OCEAN’S UNRELEASED MASTERPIECE: LOOK AT US, WERE [sic] IN LOVE. That was the title of the album Ocean was ready to release in late 2019, the post’s caption claims, after sharing songs like “DHL,” “In My Room,” Dear April,” and “Cayendo.” The post says the project was shelved in 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the sudden passing of Ocean’s little brother, Ryan Breaux. Later, it mentions the “leaks and snippets” that have emerged over the years, including the Rosalía-featuring “Choices” (also known as “Changes”) and a number of other unverified tracks.

Surpisingly, Ocean’s personal IG account @blonded commented in response to the post (which is now pinned to the top of the post’s page): “Look At Us, We’re In Love was an early attempt at a title for my club nights in NYC before I decided on one.” That club night became PrEP+.

Ocean goes on to dismiss the assembled songs in the slideshow as “either ai generated or holes in my memory. I’m gonna have to go with the former.” Indeed, a scammer was able to finesse thousands out of eager Frank Ocean fans with convincing-sounding AI generated bootlegs.” The rest, Ocean, says, are “Stray sketches with stray collaborators uploaded by some eager individuals.”

So unless Frank Ocean shares a snippet himself, be wary of its authenticity. But who knows, maybe you’ll hear something new in his directorial debut feature, which began shooting this January in Mexico City with David Jonsson starring.
