Rain and a 20% chance of thunderstorms did little to deter the hundreds of fans who descended upon Brooklyn’s Elsewhere to catch a highly anticipated sunset set from The FADER’s latest cover star, underscores. The dedication was palpable, with high-spirited attendees arriving as early as 9 a.m. to secure their spot in a line that eventually snaked around multiple city blocks.
The trek proved well worth the effort. New York City’s own heartgrazer opened the festivities with a sweet, atmospheric digicore set, followed by an inspiring techno showcase from petal supply. As the clock struck 8 p.m., the woman of the hour—sporting boots and a leather jacket—made her way through the crowd to grace the stage under her DJ alias, milkfish. Joined by friends umru, Emile Fortune, and Tiam, the group traded places behind the decks, curating a nostalgic, high-energy set that felt like a love letter to the Tumblr era of 2016. The mix seamlessly blended tracks like Charli xcx‘s “Vroom Vroom” with the Black Eyed Peas’ “Scream & Shout” and Rae Sremmurd‘s “Black Beatles.” By 9 p.m., the venue was a sweltering, euphoric hub of activity, setting the perfect stage for underscores to take control.
For those who missed the magic, be sure to return to the site on July 14 at 9 a.m. ET for the full FADER cover story on underscores, along with additional surprises.
