Lorde has a new TikTok account. On that account, which appeared on Wednesday, April 9, with just 11.8K followers at press time, is one post — a snippet of a new song. The track is very Melodrama-coded, with a banging synth melody and nostalgic lyrics. Over footage of her walking through New York City’s Washington Square Park at dawn (or dusk), she can be heard singing, “I gave you everything now/ we wake from a dream, but baby, what was that,” before the beat drops.
It appears we’ve entered the start of Lorde’s next era. Like clockwork, her Instagram page has also been wiped clean, and there’s a new profile picture too — a blurry photo of her holding a holographic water bottle. Obviously, nothing has *officially* been confirmed yet but Lorde isn’t one to tease and not deliver — commence the pop emergency.
It’s about time, too; the pop star’s last record, Solar Power, dropped in 2021 and she’s been mum on the music front outside of popping out briefly in 2024 to cameo on Charli xcx’s gargantuan single “Girl, so confusing” (which The FADER ranked as No. 2 on our best songs of the year list). There might only be crumbs of what Lorde’s got in store for now, but it’s already looking to be a great one.
