Martin Lawrence who is doing the media circuit promoting his new movie “Bad Boys” movie with Will Smith sat down with GQ and opened up some old wounds. Martin spoke on what was the real reason behind his hit iconic 90’s TV show “Martin” was canceled.
When asked about why he left the show, Martin stated, “Well, how can I say this? It just was time to end. Let’s just put it that way. It was just, at that time, there was some, um, there were some things that was being said that…” The interviewer specifically asked if it was Tisha Campbell’s ***ual harassment lawsuit against him, and Lawrence replied, “Yeah. Yeah.”
Tisha claimed in the 1997 lawsuit that Martin ***ually harassed and verbally abused her both on and f set, including groping her when they filmed scenes in bed and trying to kiss her with tongue during scenes. Lawrence denied the claims at the time, and he spoke further on the situation in his recent interview, calling the accusations “bullsh*t.”
Lawrence stated, “We don’t need to talk about something that just didn’t happen. So I just decided to walk away from the show. I just decided to end it. People said that I got canceled, but that wasn’t the case. I decided to just leave the show. I love Tisha. I’ve seen her then and now, now and then, always with nothing but love. I have nothing but love for her, and I always have.”
