Mattel in partnership with Mercedes-Benz, has launched a new die-cast model, the Matchbox Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology. This release coincides with the unveiling of the electric version of the iconic Mercedes-Benz G-Class.

This new model, crafted at a 1:64 scale, features meticulous details reflecting the robust design of the G-Class. It comes in a striking MANUFAKTUR South Seas Blue Magno color with a black interior. The car is predominantly made from 99.5 percent recycled metal and over 81 percent ISCC-certified plastic, emphasizing Matchbox’s commitment to sustainability.

Roberto Stanichi, Global Head of Vehicles at Mattel, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating “We’re thrilled to celebrate Mercedes-Benz’s pioneering efforts in the electric vehicle sector with this special edition.” Notably, the model is part of Matchbox’s “Driving Toward a Better Future” campaign, which aims for all toys and packaging to be made from recycled, recyclable or bio-based materials by 2030.

Michael Knöller, CEO of Mercedes-Benz G GmbH, also highlighted the significance of this model for G-Class enthusiasts and collectors beyond the traditional fan base, expressing that it has the potential to create new fans of the off-road icon.

The premium, limited-edition version of the die-cast car is available at the time of writing, exclusively via Mattel Creations’ official site for $29.99 USD — with a more accessible example to hit shelves at Matchbox retailers later this year. These models not only celebrate the G-Class but also aim to inspire a more sustainable future in automotive enthusiasm and toy collecting.
