Miley Cyrus Returns with Club-Ready Single “Bass Persuades”

Miley has shared the first single and title track to her coming album, Bass Persuades (out September 18) alongside a new choreo-heavy music video directed by Mert Alas.

Miley, who has dabbled in rock, country, hip-hop, and pure pop throughout her long career, is seemingly leaning into a dark pop aesthetic on the new album — which she shared would feature buzzy, industrial NYC rock quartet Model/Actriz and Andrew Wyatt of Swedish pop-rock trio Miike Snow.

The new track shows Miley “surrender[ing] to the night” during a steamy foray onto the dance floor. Its dense verses paint an eerie picture of a night out on the town, with Miley singing, “Candy’s cut with fentanyl that nobody wants / Spin it for a minute, make it all disappear / If we ain’t moving, baby, baby, why are we here?” Its video reflects the song’s themes with Miley dancing in an austere, nighttime setting with leather-clad dancers.
