New Balance is set to release two new colorways of its classic 1906 sneaker: “Team away grey with olivine and grey matter” and “Moonrock and Moonbeam,” slated to hit shelves starting April 1.
Due to their versatility and freshness, the hotly anticipated colorways will complement a spectrum of outfits at the intersection of street style and high fashion.
The 1906, a timeless sneaker from the Boston-based brand, was born in 2009 and pays homage to the New Balance’s roots, commemorating its founding year in style. Since its inception, the shoe has become one of the footwear giant’s pinnacle silhouettes, managing to capture the imagination of sneaker enthusiasts and trendsetters.
Its enduring appeal lies in its timeless silhouette, which is reminiscent of iconic designs from the 1990s. This fusion of vintage charm and contemporary style has propelled the 1906 to cult status and seen it make waves across music, sports, fashion and tech spaces.
The 1906N was reissued last year, melding the original 1906 upper with the midsole of the 860v2. Now, a “Team away grey with olivine and grey matter” colourway joins the pack – a color intrinsically linked to the New Balance heritage.
The colorway boasts reflective overlays and grey TPU accents, blending modernity with retro vibes. Underfoot, familiar elements persist with a sole unit in grey, cream, and autumnal brown, a recurring theme in recent designs. Unlike previous versions’ bold hues, this 1906N colorway offers a more versatile and subdued aesthetic.
Additionally, New Balance has more in store for the 1906R in June. Details are kept pretty under wraps but the brand has told us it’s “Moonrock and Moonbeam” inspired. The shoe’s upper combines grey leather with breathable white mesh, accented by reflective silver details on the TPU overlays.
While the 1906R has been developed as a performance-running model in its background, the 1906N has been updated with more layers, more support and more protection. Both designs are crafted with purposeful utility for the lifestyle of modern society where sports and daily life are seamlessly connected.
