Christine Wonsley, the mother of 18-year-old Nolan Wells, recently addressed the public to outline the details for her son’s upcoming funeral service. Scheduled for July 20 at Center Pointe Church in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, the event is being framed as a celebration of life rather than a traditional mourning ceremony. Wonsley emphasized that her son, a talented wide receiver at Southwest Mississippi Community College, would not have wanted his loved ones to dwell in sorrow.
Nolan Wells went missing on July 4 during a boat trip to Horn Island with friends. His body was recovered two days later by a U.S. Park Service Ranger, leaving the family with more questions than answers. As the investigation into the circumstances of his death continues, the family remains steadfast in their pursuit of the truth.
A Call for Peace and Transparency
During her announcement, Wonsley specifically addressed the community regarding potential protests surrounding the service. She urged those seeking justice to maintain a peaceful demeanor, noting that violence was contrary to her son’s character. “Nolan would never want any type of violence, he was not that kind of person,” she stated.
The family has taken significant steps to ensure a thorough investigation. Attorney Ben Crump has been retained to conduct an independent review, and activist Colin Kaepernick has provided funding for a separate autopsy. Furthermore, filmmaker Tyler Perry has generously stepped in to cover the funeral expenses, allowing the family to focus on honoring Nolan’s memory.
