Tay Keith, born Brytavious Chambers, was reportedly found dead at his Nashville apartment at the age of 29, according to reports from WSMV. The Memphis-born producer was discovered by Metro Nashville Police following a wellness check. Authorities have stated that no foul play is suspected in his passing.
Chambers was a prolific force in modern hip-hop, widely recognized for his production on Travis Scott’s hit “Sicko Mode” and for his instrumental role in shaping the resurgence of the Memphis rap scene in the late 2010s. His influence helped bridge regional sounds with mainstream success, most notably through his work with Drake on tracks like “Nonstop” and the BlocBoy JB collaboration “Look Alive.”
A Legacy of Memphis Sound
In a 2018 interview, Chambers reflected on his signature style and his collaboration with Drake. “He wanted that Memphis slap,” Chambers explained. “I’ve just took the origins — with Three 6 Mafia and DJ Squeeky and them — and brought it back to life in a sense.”
Chambers remained active in the industry until his final days. His recent work included producing the track “Get It Sexyy” for Sexyy Red, which was featured on the latest season of HBO’s Euphoria, as well as the Chris Brown single “Call Your Name” featuring Sexyy Red and GloRilla.
Industry Mourns a Rising Talent
The music community has begun to express its grief over the loss of such a significant creative voice. BlocBoy JB shared a tribute on his Instagram story on June 18, posting a screenshot of a call log showing their daily communication and writing, “We talked everyday yeen tell me you was leaving.”
Chambers’s last full-length project was his 2023 collaborative effort with Lil Darius, Yung n Turnt. As the industry processes this tragedy, his contributions to the sound of a generation remain an undeniable part of his legacy.
