Gooding & Company, as part of its annual Amelia Island Auction, is set to offer a rare Canadian market example of the 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder Weissach, which is expected to fetch as much as $3,000,000 USD.

This particular 918 Spyder, one of just 28 examples believed to have been allocated for the Canadian market, carries the distinction of being finished in the iconic Gulf Oil livery, a testament to its unique provenance and the extraordinary lengths taken by its consignor to achieve this customization.

The Porsche 918 Spyder, initially unveiled as a concept at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, represents the pinnacle of automotive engineering and design. As a hybrid supercar, it melds classic Porsche aesthetics with advanced tech, boasting a 4.6L, V-8 engine complemented by two electric motors to produce a staggering 887 hp and 940 lb-ft of torque. This powertrain allows the car to achieve 0–60 mph in just 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 217 mph, while still offering the possibility of electric-only driving.

Additionally, the Weissach package, an optional upgrade named after Porsche’s research and development facility, further distinguishes this 918 Spyder. It enhances performance through significant weight reduction, employing magnesium wheels, ceramic wheel bearings, lighter brakes and titanium chassis bolts — a package that played a crucial role in the 918 Spyder setting a record lap time at the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 2013.

What sets this particular 918 Spyder apart is its Gulf Oil livery, a homage to the historic partnership between Porsche and Gulf Oil, celebrated through motorsports in the 1960s and 1970s. Unlike the standard Martini livery available for the 918, which was applied as a vinyl wrap, the Gulf livery on this vehicle was meticulously painted, making it a rare sight among its peers.

The original owner’s dedication to authenticity and historical significance did not stop with the exterior. The interior features orange piping and stitching on black leather seats with the Gulf emblem embossed into the headrests, reflecting the same attention to detail and commitment to the Gulf theme.

Bidding for this rare 918 Spyder, featuring only 376 miles on the odometer, is open for registration at the time of writing, via Gooding & Company’s official site.
