Robert Downey Jr. finally revealed whether or not he’ll even reprise his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In a new cover story with Esquire, the actor revealed that he will “happily” return to the MCU whenever. ”It’s too integral a part of my DNA. That role chose me,” he said. “And look, I always say, Never, ever bet against Kevin Feige. It is a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win.”
Downey’s last appearance as the superhero was in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, where his character experienced a heroic death. It was rumored last year that he would be returning to the MCU in a bid to revive the studio’s lackluster performance at the box office, however Feige himself confirmed that the reports were false. “We’d already said tearful goodbyes on the last day of shooting. Everybody had moved on emotionally,” Joe Russo added. “We promised [Downey] it would be the last time we made him do it—ever.”
