Yung Lean, also known as Jonatan Leandoer, delivers a fearsome performance in “STORM,” the latest double-single and music video project from the multidisciplinary duo GENER8ION, comprised of DJ Surkin and director Romain Gavras.
In the visual for “STORM,” Leandoer portrays a brutish bully within the confines of an all-boys British boarding school. The character is marked by a penchant for chaos—ranging from the dismantling of public infrastructure to the establishment of a quasi-fight club. It is a genuinely unnerving performance, executed by the Swedish rapper with a level of moxie and commitment that commands attention.
The project takes an ecstatic turn with the second installment, “STORM II.” Here, the music shifts to a more melodic landscape defined by sweeping pianos and strings. Yung Lean pivots from his earlier aggression to call for unity and revolution, chanting “We stay united through the storm.” The accompanying video features a group of suited schoolboys performing a hypnotic, high-energy dance on the school steps, with choreography by Damien Jalet that evokes the reveling dance seen in the 2025 film The Testament of Ann Lee.
GENER8ION, the collaborative venture between Surkin and Gavras, first gained significant traction four years ago with “Neo Surf,” which featured 070 Shake. Surkin, a veteran of the French Touch 2.0 electronic scene, and Gavras, a director renowned for his work with artists like M.I.A., Justice, and Ye and Jäy Z, continue to push the boundaries of the music video format.
Leandoer’s evocative work here serves as a compelling preview of his broader acting career. Having appeared alongside Charli xcx, Chris Evans, and Anya Taylor Joy in the 2025 film Sacrifice—a thriller centered on a high-stakes charity gala—Leandoer is clearly carving out a space for himself in cinema. While distribution details for Sacrifice remain pending, “STORM” stands as a potent example of his theatrical range.
