Roughly 50,000 fans swarmed Lollapalooza’s T-Mobile stage on August 1, 2026, to witness the U.S. festival debut of the K-pop sensation CORTIS. Despite overnight storms delaying their set and forcing a condensed 40-minute performance, the energy was electric. The quintet—comprising Martin, James, Juhoon, Seonghyeon, and Keonho—delivered high-octane renditions of hits like “FaSHioN” and “TNT,” even surprising the crowd by bringing out hip-hop legend Juicy J for the live debut of their latest single, “MOTION.”
Since debuting under HYBE’s BigHit Music less than a year ago, CORTIS has rapidly ascended the global charts. Their trap-infused sound, anchored by the breakout hit “GO!” and their sophomore EP GREENGREEN, has solidified their status as a new powerhouse in the industry. Behind the scenes, the group remains a tightly knit unit, navigating the chaos of festival life with a clear, self-driven vision.
Defining the CORTIS Philosophy
When asked about the origin of their name, the group explains it as a manifesto for their creative process. “CORTIS is based on the idea of ‘coloring outside the lines,’” says Martin. “We took six random letters from the phrase. It means thinking outside the box, breaking the mold, or challenging the norms.”

This ethos extends to their personal style and studio habits. Whether they are advising fans to “cut your pants” or embrace summer fashion by showing skin, the group maintains a relaxed, authentic approach to their public image. In the studio, this translates to a collaborative, organic workflow. James notes that the choreography for their single “GO!” was finalized in just two days of intense, focused work, followed by their signature post-session ritual: a group meal of Korean barbecue.
Collaborations and Future Horizons
The group’s collaboration with Juicy J was a milestone moment for the members, particularly for Martin, who grew up heavily influenced by Southern hip-hop. “It’s surreal to work with such a big artist,” James reflects. “We had the chance to talk about life and music before we even started recording.”
Looking ahead, the group remains eager to expand their creative circle. They recently worked with the artist skaiwater, describing the experience as both chill and creatively rewarding. As they continue their Put Your Phone Down world tour, the members find inspiration in the mundane aspects of their daily lives and the excitement of visiting new cities. For CORTIS, the most profound inspiration comes from within—revisiting their own performances and pushing the boundaries of their sound as they continue to evolve.
