Indonesian girl group no na are officially welcoming fans into the immersive world of their upcoming debut album, Island Girl, which is set for release on September 18. To celebrate the project, the group has unveiled a 13-minute short film titled “speaker freaker (the long song),” providing a cinematic preview of the record’s sonic landscape.

The ambitious visual project features snippets from eight tracks on the album, including the previously released singles “rollerblade” and “work.” Shot on location across Indonesia—specifically in the vibrant urban centers of Jakarta and Yogyakarta—the film captures the country’s stunning coastal beauty and bustling city life. Musically, the previewed tracks showcase a nostalgic 2000s aesthetic, blending the propulsive energy of Detroit-style Ghettotech with traditional Indonesian influences like the gamelan.

“’speaker freaker (the long song)’ is our fun little nod to mixtapes from the ’90s and early 2000s,” the group shared in a statement. “We loved the idea of taking people through the different tracks on Island Girl almost like they’re listening to a mixtape, and giving them a taste of the album before it’s fully out.”

The group, comprised of members Baila, Christy, Esther, and Shaz, described the filming process as an “island girl road trip.” They emphasized that the visual component was essential to their creative vision, stating, “It was really important for us to bring that Indonesian pride into the visual world of the album and share where we come from.”

Since the viral success of their January single “work,” the quartet has rapidly ascended as global stars, pioneering a fresh sound they describe as “Island Pop.” With the release of Island Girl on the horizon, the group continues to push boundaries, opting for unexpected and playful introductions to their music rather than traditional promotional cycles.
