Geordie Greep Cancels U.S. Tour Following Sexual Misconduct Allegations

Geordie Greep has established a significant solo career in indie rock since the indefinite hiatus of his former band, black midi, just over two years ago. Greep was actively touring in support of his 2024 solo record, The New Sound, until last week, when the British singer was accused of sexual misconduct. The allegations surfaced when a purported friend of the alleged victim distributed flyers outside of his Vancouver performance, labeling the singer a “rapist.” Greep addressed these accusations on stage later that evening, though neither party provided substantial details or corroborating evidence at the time.

Following the incident, all remaining U.S. dates on Greep’s fall tour have been canceled. The affected schedule includes performances in Colorado, Salt Lake City, Omaha, and Boise. A previously scheduled show at Wooly’s in Des Moines was also canceled, despite initial reports suggesting it might proceed. The status of Greep’s upcoming European tour dates remains uncertain.

The controversy began on Thursday, October 8, ahead of Greep’s show at Granville Street in Vancouver. Reports circulated on social media that an unnamed individual was handing out flyers outside the venue accusing the artist of sexual assault. A photo of one of the flyers was subsequently shared online.

According to social media accounts from concert attendees, the individual distributing the flyers claimed that Greep had sexually assaulted a friend but did not offer further context. When Greep took the stage later that night, he delivered a lengthy statement regarding the accusations.

“Essentially what happened last night, me and some of the band went out to some bars, we went around, we met people, and it ended up in a situation where really late at a house party, I got the wrong end of the stick with someone who was there, and I made a move, and it didn’t come off,” Greep stated. “I really quickly, of course, apologized, and it was a complete misunderstanding on my part. I felt extremely bad, I feel extremely sorry, and extremely upset about the whole situation. I would never rape a woman. I’m not a rapist. It’s not how that went down.”

Greep announced that the proceeds from that evening’s show would be donated to anti-sexual violence charities in British Columbia. While he proceeded to perform a solo set, reports indicated that several fans chose to leave the venue during the event. You can view a video of his statement below.
