R&B singer Jacquees is now a free man after being released from the Broward County Main Jail. The artist, whose legal name is Rodriguez Jacquees Broadnax, secured his release on a $3,500 bond following his arrest this past Sunday.
The incident occurred in Hollywood, Florida, when local authorities discovered the 32-year-old performer unresponsive behind the wheel of his Jeep Gladiator. According to police reports, officers responded to a call at the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and North 62nd Avenue shortly before 8 A.M. After initial attempts to wake him proved unsuccessful, firefighters were forced to break the vehicle’s window to gain access.
Upon being removed from the vehicle, authorities noted that Broadnax smelled of alcohol. The situation escalated during his transport to a local hospital, where police allege he became combative. According to the arrest report, the singer punched an officer in the arm while resisting efforts to be placed on a stretcher, leading an officer to strike him in the face with a forearm to gain control of the situation.
Broadnax currently faces three charges: DUI, battery on an officer, and resisting an officer without violence. Speaking to reporters outside the jail after his release, the singer offered a different perspective on the events. He claimed he was simply sleeping at a traffic light and questioned why officers did not allow him to return to his nearby home. When asked about the allegations of resisting arrest, he stated, “What’s resisting like saying, like, ‘Man, don’t lock me up.’ Oh, yeah. I definitely told them don’t lock me up. Not physically.”
The artist, who maintains a significant following with over 7 million monthly listeners on Spotify, expressed confidence that the charges would be dismissed, characterizing them as “false.” As a condition of his bond, he has been ordered to abstain from the use of drugs and alcohol pending his court appearance.
