JD Vance recently offered a moment of dark humor while promoting his new memoir, Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith, at the Nixon Presidential Library on June 25, 2026. During the event, the politician discussed his spiritual journey and his conversion to Catholicism, but he couldn’t resist a jab at the current legal situation surrounding Sean “Diddy” Combs.
The conversation turned toward a specific chapter in Vance’s book titled “More Money, More Problems,” a reference to the iconic 1997 track by Combs and The Notorious B.I.G. Addressing the audience, Vance remarked, “Well, again I’m a millennial and so I believe that’s the wisdom of the great Christian theologian uh P. Diddy. Who as we found out in the last couple years is very much not a Christian or a theologian.”
The comment drew laughter from the crowd, acknowledging the stark contrast between the song’s cautionary message about wealth and the reality of Combs’ legal downfall. In July 2025, Combs was convicted on federal charges, resulting in a four-year prison sentence that is currently keeping him behind bars with a projected release date in 2028.
Vance, appearing aware of the potential fallout from his remarks, noted that he expected the clip to be utilized by his political opponents. “I’m going to get in trouble for all kinds of things. That’ll be one of them. That will be in an attack ad at some point in the future,” he said with a knowing smile.
Despite the lighthearted reference, the core of Vance’s discussion remained focused on the deeper themes of his book, which explores the disconnect between material success and spiritual fulfillment—a concept that, ironically, mirrors the original message of the song he referenced.
