Judge Delays Lil Durk’s Second Trial Until Summer 2027

Lil Durk’s remaining federal trial has been pushed to August 2027, following his recent acquittal in his first federal case.

Judge Delays Lil Durk’s Second Trial Until Summer 2027

Legal proceedings for Lil Durk have taken a significant turn, as the rapper will not face a courtroom for his remaining federal charges until next summer. U.S. District Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald has officially approved a continuance, rescheduling the VICAR murder trial to August 30, 2027.

The decision to move the trial date from its original October 5, 2026, slot was made to provide defense attorneys with the necessary time to prepare for the complex case. Both the defense and the prosecution agreed to the delay, with Durk formally waiving his right to a speedy trial.

This development arrives less than three weeks after Lil Durk secured a major legal victory in his first federal trial. In that case, he was acquitted on all five counts, including charges of murder-for-hire and stalking resulting in death. While his co-defendants, Deandre “OTF Dede” Wilson and David “Browneyez” Lindsey, were convicted on stalking-related charges, they also successfully beat the murder-for-hire allegations.

Defense Prepares for Massive Evidence Review

The defense team cited the overwhelming scope of the remaining VICAR and firearms charges as the primary reason for requesting the extension. Attorneys are currently tasked with reviewing hundreds of gigabytes of digital evidence, alongside more than 30,000 pages of documents, including medical records, witness statements, and official reports.

The initial trial focused on the August 2022 shooting near the Beverly Center, an incident involving an alleged attempt on the life of Quando Rondo, which resulted in the death of his cousin, Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson. Although the government relied on testimony from three OTF associates who had accepted plea deals, the jury ultimately found their testimony insufficient.

Currently, Lil Durk remains in federal custody. His legal team is preparing for a bond hearing scheduled for November 5, where they will make another attempt to secure his release while he awaits the 2027 trial date. Should the motion be denied, the rapper could face nearly another year of incarceration before the remaining charges are presented to a jury.
