Last Audi R8 Rolls off the Line and Into the Sunset

According to several recent reports, the last Audi R8 has rolled off the production line and is set to ride off into the sunset, marking the end of a significant chapter and model for the German automaker.

The specific model in question is said to have rolled off the line at Audi‘s Böllinger Höfe site in Heilbronn, Germany. Befitting to the occasion, the final production model was no ordinary R8 but instead the V10-powered Performance Quattro Edition — dressed in a vibrant Vegas Yellow paint complemented by carbon fiber accents and 20-inch wheels — a spec we had the pleasure of experiencing firsthand in 2022.

It’s worth noting that the decision to conclude the R8’s production was followed by an expected or maybe unexpected surge in orders after its announcement, pushing the end of production from late 2023 to this month. Even though the model saw a 49 percent increase in sales over the last year, it still only resulted in 1,591 units sold and represents the automaker’s slowest-selling global product.

In addition to the end of the R8, the news also marks the twilight of the Volkswagen Group’s celebrated V10 engine, with the Lamborghini Huracan following suit. This marks the end of the line for supercars powered by the naturally aspirated 5.2L engine, with most automakers looking towards either hybrid or fully electrified futures.

At the time of writing, Audi has not made any official comment on the end of the R8 line or announced a successor, however, we expect to hear more via their official channels soon.
