Megan Thee Stallion is cutting her Broadway run short, and the timing of her departure has sparked significant conversation among fans and industry observers alike.
The Houston rapper announced Monday that her final performance in Moulin Rouge will take place on May 1, wrapping up her tenure two weeks earlier than the originally scheduled May 17 exit. Having made her Broadway debut in the role of Zidler just five weeks ago, the sudden change in plans has drawn immediate attention to her personal life.
“It’s been such an honor to be part of thee Moulin Rouge family and I’ve met so many amazing people in this theater! Y’all work so hard and I have so much respect for the dedication, the stamina, the work ethic, the time and the effort y’all put into the work! I’m so grateful for the cast and crew that made this experience so meaningful,” Megan Thee Stallion stated in a recent announcement.
On April 25, the artist went public with accusations that NBA star Klay Thompson had been unfaithful, sharing her frustrations on social media regarding the betrayal. During her curtain call at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre that same evening, she appeared visibly emotional, a moment that resonated deeply with her audience.
The impact of her presence on the production was undeniable. According to reports, box office receipts saw a significant surge following her casting, with weekly earnings climbing from $872,702 to over $1 million. By the week ending April 19, the show pulled in $1,663,269, underscoring her immense influence as a performer.
While this marks an early end to her Broadway run, the production is slated to continue through August 30, with producers expected to announce a replacement for the final two weeks of her scheduled performances.
